Context of Leviticus 15:23
21Whoever touches her bed is to wash his clothes and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening. 22Whoever touches anything that she sits on is to wash his clothes and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening. If it is on the bed or on anything where she sits, when he touches it, he will be unclean until the evening. 24If any man lies with her, so that her niddah gets on him, he will be unclean for seven days and every bed where he lies will be unclean. 25“Now if a woman has a discharge of her blood for many days not during her niddah or if she has a discharge beyond the time of her niddah all the days of the discharge of her uncleanness shall be as in the days of her niddah . She is unclean.

Commentaries on Leviticus 15:23
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 19-23A woman's menstrual period is natural and not a disease. But because it involved a bloody discharge, she became ceremonially unclean (see Leviticus 15:32–33). The rules were similar to those for a man with a bodily discharge (15:2–12). She could stay at home, but anything she sat on became unclean. Anyone who touched her had to wash, and she probably did the same after the seven-day quarantine. There was no animal sacrifice needed.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 19-3319. if a woman have an issue--Though this, like the leprosy, might be a natural affection, it was anciently considered contagious and entailed a ceremonial defilement which typified a moral impurity. This ceremonial defilement had to be removed by an appointed method of ceremonial expiation, and the neglect of it subjected any one to the guilt of defiling the tabernacle, and to death as the penalty of profane temerity.Read the comment
