Context of Ezekiel 40:10
8When he measured the porch of the gate toward the House, it was one rod. 9When he measured the porch of the gate, it was eight cubits; its pillars were two cubits. The porch of the gate faced the House. Now the guard chambers of the east gate were three on this side, and three on the other side—the three had the same measurement. The side pillars had the same measure on this side and on that side. 11When he measured the width of the entrance of the gate, it was ten cubits, and the length of the gate was 13 cubits. 12A barrier wall was in front of the guard chambers, one cubit on each side. Each chamber was six cubits on each side.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-16The exact architectural details of the temple are difficult to translate. Some of the building terms are hard to understand in every language. However, the overall impression of these gates is clear. The gates looked like fortresses (strong buildings used for defense). They were built to keep out people who did not have permission to enter. These gates protected the holy space of the temple. The eastern gateway is described first because it was the most…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-49The arrangements as to the land and the temple are, in many particulars, different from those subsisting before the captivity. There are things in it so improbable physically as to preclude a purely literal interpretation. The general truth seems to hold good that, as Israel served the nations for his rejection of Messiah, so shall they serve him in the person of Messiah, when he shall acknowledge Messiah (Is 60:12; Zec 14:17-19; compare Psa 72:11).
