Context of 2 Kings 14:20
18Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 19They conspired against him in Jerusalem, so he fled to Lachish, but they sent men after him to Lachish and assassinated him there. Then they brought his body back on horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David. 21And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and proclaimed him king in place of his father Amaziah. 22It was he who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah after the previous king slept with his fathers.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 20They brought him on horses - i. e. they conveyed his body back to Jerusalem in the royal chariot. - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 19-2019-20. they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem--Amaziah's apostasy (2Ch 25:27) was followed by a general maladministration, especially the disastrous issue of the war with Israel. The ruinous condition of Jerusalem, the plunder of the temple, and the loss of their children who were taken as hostages [2Ki 14:13, 14], lost him the respect and attachment not of the grandees only, but of his subjects generally, who were in rebellion.
