Context of 1 Kings 10:26
24All the earth sought an audience with Solomon, to listen to his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. 25They brought, each man his gift—vessels of silver and gold, robes, weapons, spices, horses and mules—so much year by year. Solomon accumulated chariots and horsemen. He had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, and he stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 27Also the king made silver as common as stones in Jerusalem, and cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees in the foothills. 28Solomon’s horses were brought from Egypt and from Keveh. The king’s merchants would buy them from Keveh at a price

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-29Verses 14-29 Solomon increased his wealth. Silver was nothing accounted of. Such is the nature of worldly wealth, plenty of it makes it the less valuable; much more should the enjoyment of spiritual riches lessen our esteem of all earthly possessions. If gold in abundance makes silver to be despised, shall not wisdom, and grace, and the foretastes of heaven, which are far better than gold, make gold to be lightly esteemed? The ascent to it was by six steps, on each of which stood lions, in place of a railing--while a lion, probably of gilt metal, stood at each side, which, we may suppose from the analogy of other Oriental thrones, supported a canopy. A golden footstool is mentioned (2Ch 9:18) as attached to this throne, whose…Read the comment
