- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 72On the eleventh day - The Hebrew form of expression, here and in the 78th verse, has something curious in it. יום עשר עשתי ביום beyom ashtey asar yom, In the day, the first and tenth day; יום עשר שנים ביום beyom sheneym asar yom, In the day, two and tenth day. But this is the idiom of the language, and to an original Hebrew our almost anomalous words eleventh and twelfth, by which we translate the original, would appear as strange as his, literally…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-89Verses 10-89 The princes and great men were most forward in the service of God. Here is an example to those in authority, and of the highest rank; they ought to use their honour and power, their estate and interest, to promote religion and the service of God in the places where they live. Though it was a time of joy and rejoicing, yet still, in the midst of their sacrifices, we find a sin-offering. As, in our best services, we are conscious that there is…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12-83One by one, the tribal leaders brought their gifts for the dedication of the altar. Each tribe participated until the whole Hebrew confederation (the united group of twelve tribes) had taken part. The text repeats the description of each tribe’s gift. This repetition highlights the shared nature of the ceremony. Every tribe had a role in setting apart their place of worship for God. The careful listing of the gifts may reflect detailed record keeping…Read the comment

On the second day Nethaneel ... prince of Issachar, did offer--This tribe being stationed on the right side of Judah, offered next through its representative; then Zebulun, which was on the left side; and so on in orderly succession, every tribe making the same kind of offering and in the same amount, to show that, as each was under equal obligation, each rendered an equal tribute. Although each offering made was the same in quantity as well as…Read the comment
