Context of Leviticus 26:14
12And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people. 13I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their slaves; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright. But if ye will not hearken to me, and will not do all these commandments; 15And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul shall abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: 16I also will do this to you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning fever, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-39Verses 14-39 After God has set the blessing before them which would make them a happy people if they would be obedient, he here sets the curse before them, the evils which would make them miserable, if they were disobedient. Even when Israel faced exile from the land in 722 and 586 BC, God was working to restore them (see, for example, Isaiah 40–66; Jeremiah…Read the comment
