Context of Genesis 50:24
22And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years. 23And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation : the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees. And Joseph said to his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 25And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from here. 26So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24Joseph said - I die - That is, I am dying; and God will surely visit you - he will yet again give you, in the time when it shall be essentially necessary, the most signal proof of his unbounded love towards the seed of Jacob. And bring you out of this land - Though ye have here every thing that can render life comfortable, yet this is not the typical land, the land given by covenant, the land which represents the rest that remains for the people of God.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-26Verses 22-26 Joseph having honoured his father, his days were long in the land, which, for the present, God had given him. We must comfort others with the same comforts with which we have been comforted of God, and encourage them to rest on the promises which are our support. For a confession of his own faith, and a confirmation of…Read the comment

God would come to his people and act to save them. God’s coming in the Messiah (the promised descendant of Abraham and God’s chosen king) would bring an end to the curse (the result of sin) and bring God’s promised blessing in a new creation (a renewed world). God’s faithful people would wait with hope for…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2424. Joseph said unto his brethren, I die--The national feelings of the Egyptians would have been opposed to his burial in Canaan; but he gave the strongest proof of the strength of his faith and full assurance of the promises, by "the commandment concerning his bones" [He 11:22].Read the comment
