Context of Ezekiel 30:5
3For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen. 4And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in Cush, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down. Cush, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword. 6Thus saith the LORD; They also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord GOD. 7And they shall be desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 30:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Lydia - This place is not well known. The Ludim were contiguous to Egypt, Genesis 11:13. Chub - The Cubians, placed by Ptolemy in the Mareotis. But probably instead of וכוב vechub, "and Chub," we should read וכל vechol, "and All the men of the land," etc. The Septuagint adds "the Persians and the Cretans."Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5Libya, and Lydia - Or, as in Ezekiel 27:10, Phut and Lud. The mingled people - Foreigners, who settled in Egypt. The Saite dynasty of Egyptian kings were especially favorable to foreign immigrants. Hophra employed many of them in his armies, and in this way, according to Herodotus, lost the affections of his Egyptian subjects. See Jeremiah 25:20 note. Chub - The word occurs here only. It was some tribe in alliance with Egypt, either of African race like…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-19This third message against Egypt is written as a lament (a poem of sorrow). It repeats much of the earlier message in Ezekiel 29:1–16. God would judge Egypt and its allies. The nation would fall under his judgment.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 55. the mingled people--the mercenary troops of Egypt from various lands, mostly from the interior of Africa (compare Eze 27:10; Jr 25:20, 24; 46:9, 21). Chub--the people named Kufa on the monuments [Havernick], a people considerably north of Palestine [Wilkinson]; Coba or Chobat, a city of Mauritania [Maurer]. men of the land that is in league--too definite an expression to mean merely, "men in league" with Egypt; rather, "sons of the land of the…Read the comment
