Context of Ezekiel 20:3
1And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifthmonth, the tenthday of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to enquire of the LORD, and sat before me. 2Then came the word of the LORD to me, saying, Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you. 4Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them ? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers: 5And say to them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up my hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up my hand to them, saying, I am the LORD your God;

The leaders (literally elders) of Israel, who were the community's elders in exile, came to Ezekiel again, seeking a message from the Lord (compare Ezekiel 8:1; 14:1). - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-323. The chapter falls into two great parts: Eze 20:1-32, the recital of the people's rebellions during five distinct periods: in Egypt, the wilderness, on the borders of Canaan when a new generation arose, in Canaan, and in the time of the prophet. I will not be inquired of by you--because their moral state precluded them from capability of knowing the will of God (Psa 66:18; Pr 28:9; Joh 7:17).Read the comment
