Context of Psalms 5:5
3O LORD, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer unto thee, and will keep watch. 4For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: evil shall not sojourn with thee. The arrogant shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. 6Thou shalt destroy them that speak lies: the LORD abhorreth the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. 7But as for me, in the multitude of thy lovingkindness will I come into thy house: in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5The foolish shall not stand - He is a fool and a madman who is running himself out of breath for no prize, who is fighting against the Almighty; this every wicked man does; therefore is every wicked man a fool and a madman. Thou hatest all workers of iniquity - Some sin now and then, others generally; some constantly, and some labor in it with all their might. These are the Workers of iniquity. Such even the God of infinite love and mercy hates. Alas!…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1-12Verses 1-12 :Title Upon Nehiloth - The title of Psalm 4:1-8 is, “upon Neginoth.” As that refers to a musical instrument, so it is probable that this does, and that the idea here is that this psalm was intended particularly for the music-master that had special charge of this instrument, or who presided over those that played on it. Perhaps the idea is that this psalm was specially designed to be accompanied with this instrument. The word here, Nehiloth…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5The boastful: Mockers (see study note on Psalm 1:1), the wicked (Psalm 73:3; 75:4), and the arrogant (10:2) use their words to distort the truth and challenge the faith of the godly. The Lord allows only the godly into his presence (see Psalm 1:5). His holiness and justice do not tolerate oppression or evil actions.
