Context of Numbers 16:13
11Therefore thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and Aaron, what is he that ye murmur against him? 12And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: and they said, We will not come up: is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but thou must needs make thyself also a prince over us? 14Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up. 15And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13With perverse contempt for the promises, Dathan and Abiram designate Egypt by the terms appropriated elsewhere to the land of Canaan.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-15Verses 12-15 Moses summoned Dathan and Abiram to bring their complaints; but they would not obey. They bring very false charges against Moses. Those often fall under the heaviest censures, who in truth deserve the highest praise. Moses, though the meekest man, yet, finding God reproached in him, was very wroth; he could not bear to see the people ruining themselves. He appeals to God as to his own integrity. He bade them appear with Aaron next morning, at…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13land flowing with milk and honey: This phrase repeats the words the spies used earlier to describe Canaan (Numbers 13:27). In this story, however, the words are used with sarcasm. The speakers twist the meaning on purpose. They use this phrase to describe Egypt in a positive way. This distorts the truth about life in Egypt, where the Israelites had lived as slaves (see study note on 11:4–15).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 12-1412-14. Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram--in a separate interview, the ground of their mutiny being different; for while Korah murmured against the exclusive appropriation of the priesthood to Aaron and his family, they were opposed to the supremacy of Moses in civil power. They refused to obey the summons; and their refusal was grounded on the plausible pretext that their stay in the desert was prolonged for some secret and selfish purposes of the…Read the comment
