Context of Nahum 1:15
13And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder. 14And the LORD hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou art vile. Behold, upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! Keep thy feasts, O Judah, perform thy vows: for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

Commentaries on Nahum 1:15
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15Behold upon the mountains - Borrowed probably from Isaiah 52:7, but applied here to the messengers who brought the good tidings of the destruction of Nineveh. Judah might then keep her solemn feasts, for the wicked Assyrian should pass through the land no more; being entirely cut off, and the imperial city razed to its foundations.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 There is a great deal plotted against the Lord by the gates of hell, and against his kingdom in the world; but it will prove in vain. With some sinners God makes quick despatch; and one way or other, he will make an utter end of all his enemies. Though they are quiet, and many very secure, and not in fear, they shall be cut down as grass and corn, when the destroying angel passes through. God would hereby work great deliverance for his own…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 15Nahum adds to his prophecy about Judah's freedom from bondage (Nahum 1:13) by predicting a messenger will bring news of peace (see also Isaiah 52:7). The peace message was that Assyria's control over Judah would end, freeing God's people from its burden. This happened during King Josiah's reign from 640 to 609 BC, after Assyrian King Ashurbanipal died in 626 BC. This political message hints at God's final victory over evil. It foretells the release from…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1515. This verse is joined in the Hebrew text to the second chapter. It is nearly the same as Is 52:7, referring to the similar deliverance from Babylon. him that bringeth good tidings--announcing the overthrow of Sennacherib and deliverance of Jerusalem. The "mountains" are those round Jerusalem, on which Sennacherib's host had so lately encamped, preventing Judah from keeping her "feasts," but on which messengers now speed to Jerusalem, publishing his…Read the comment
