Context of Deuteronomy 30:6
4If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will Yhwh thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: 5And Yhwh thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. And Yhwh thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love Yhwh thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. 7And Yhwh thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee. 8And thou shalt return and obey the voice of Yhwh, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.

Commentaries on Deuteronomy 30:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6God will circumcise thine heart - This promise remains yet to be fulfilled. Their heart, as a people, has never yet been circumcised; nor have the various promises in this chapter been ever yet fulfilled. There remaineth, therefore, a rest for this people of God. Now, as the law, properly speaking, made no provision for the circumcision of the heart, which implies the remission of sins, and purification of the soul from all unrighteousness; and as…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1-10Verses 1-10 The rejection of Israel and the desolation of the promised inheritance were not to be the end of God‘s dispensations. The closing words of the address therefore are words of comfort and promise. Compare marginal reference and Deuteronomy 4:29 ff; 1 Kings 8:46-50. The chastisements of God would lead the nation to repent, and thereupon God would again bless them. Deuteronomy 30:3 Will turn thy captivity - Will change or put an end to thy state…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6circumcise your heart: This change would be a work of God. It would begin with his grace (his undeserved kindness). As a result, Israel would experience renewal (a new spiritual beginning). This change would show that the nation truly belonged to the Lord (see 10:16; Jeremiah 4:4; Romans 4:1–12).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-101-10. when all these things are come upon thee, ... and thou shalt return ... then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity--The hopes of the Hebrew people are ardently directed to this promise, and they confidently expect that God, commiserating their forlorn and fallen condition, will yet rescue them from all the evils of their long dispersion. They do not consider the promise as fulfilled by their restoration from the captivity in Babylon, for Israel…Read the comment
