Context of Zechariah 6:14
12Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Here is the man called the Branch. He will branch out from where he is and build the Temple of the Lord. 13Yes, he will build the Temple of the Lord. Then he will receive royal honor and will rule as king from his throne. He will also serve as priest from his throne, and there will be perfect harmony between his two roles.’ “The crown will be a memorial in the Temple of the Lord to honor those who gave it—Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Josiah son of Zephaniah.” 15People will come from distant lands to rebuild the Temple of the Lord. And when this happens, you will know that my messages have been from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. All this will happen if you carefully obey what the Lord your God says.

Commentaries on Zechariah 6:14
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14And the crowns shall be - One of my MSS. has אטרות ataroth, crowns, corrected into עטרת atereth, crown; and so the Septuagint, Syriac, and Arabic. The Chaldee has, "And praise shall be," etc. The meaning appears to be this, that the crown made for Joshua should be delivered to the persons mentioned here and in Zechariah 6:10, to be laid up in the temple of the Lord, as a memorial of this typical transaction.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14And the crowns shall be to Helem - There is no ground apparent to us, why the name “Helem” appears instead of “Holdai”, or “Hen” for “Josiah:” yet the same person must have been called both Hen and Josiah, since the father‘s name is the same in both places. They cannot both be intended as explanations of the former names, since Helem stands insulated in Hebrew, its meaning conjectural. Perhaps then they were the own names of the individuals, and the names…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 Some Jews from Babylon brought an offering to the house of God. Those who cannot forward a good work by their persons, must, as they are able, forward it by their purses: if some find hands, let others fill them. Crowns are to be made, and put upon the head of Joshua. The sign was used, to make the promise more noticed, that God will, in the fulness of time, raise up a great High Priest, like Joshua, who is but the figure of one that is to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14The symbolic crown, which united kingship and priesthood, was placed in the temple as a memorial to the gold and silver donors. It also served as a permanent reminder of Jeshua’s coronation as priest-king and helped priests teach about this new development. Josiah received honor for arranging the meeting between Zechariah and the three former exiles.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1414. the crowns shall be to Helem ... a memorial--deposited in the temple, to the honor of the donors; a memorial, too, of the coronation of Joshua, to remind all of Messiah, the promised antitypical king-priest, soon to come. Helem, the same as Heldai above. So Hen (that is, "favor") is another name for Josiah (that is, "God founds") above. The same person often had two names.Read the comment
