Context of Nahum 1:14
12This is what the Lord says: “Though the Assyrians have many allies, they will be destroyed and disappear. O my people, I have punished you before, but I will not punish you again. 13Now I will break the yoke of bondage from your neck and tear off the chains of Assyrian oppression.” And this is what the Lord says concerning the Assyrians in Nineveh: “You will have no more children to carry on your name. I will destroy all the idols in the temples of your gods. I am preparing a grave for you because you are despicable!” 15Look! A messenger is coming over the mountains with good news! He is bringing a message of peace. Celebrate your festivals, O people of Judah, and fulfill all your vows, for your wicked enemies will never invade your land again. They will be completely destroyed!

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14No more of thy name be sown - No more of you shall be carried away into captivity. I will make thy grave; for thou art vile - I think this is an address to the Assyrians, and especially to Sennacherib. The text is no obscure intimation of the fact. The house of his gods is to be his grave: and we know that while he was worshipping in the house of his god Nisroch, his two sons, Adrammelech and Sharezer, smote him there that he died, 2 Kings 19:37.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 There is a great deal plotted against the Lord by the gates of hell, and against his kingdom in the world; but it will prove in vain. With some sinners God makes quick despatch; and one way or other, he will make an utter end of all his enemies. Though they are quiet, and many very secure, and not in fear, they shall be cut down as grass and corn, when the destroying angel passes through. God would hereby work great deliverance for his own…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14no descendants: Nineveh would be completely destroyed. Cutting off a person's name and leaving him without descendants meant total destruction (1 Samuel 24:21; Job 18:17; Isaiah 14:22). None of Assyria’s respected gods could save Nineveh from God's death sentence. God was already preparing a grave for Nineveh and guiding Assyria’s enemies to destroy the city. Assyria’s proud cities fell one by one to the combined attacks of the Chaldeans, the Medes, and…Read the comment

Though they be quiet--that is, without fear, and tranquilly secure. So Chaldee and Calvin. Or, "entire," "complete"; "Though their power be unbroken [Maurer], and though they be so many, yet even so they shall be cut down" (literally, "shorn"; as hair shaved off closely by a razor, Is 7:20).
