Context of Ezekiel 35:8
6As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, since you show no distaste for blood, I will give you a bloodbath of your own. Your turn has come! 7I will make Mount Seir utterly desolate, killing off all who try to escape and any who return. I will fill your mountains with the dead. Your hills, your valleys, and your ravines will be filled with people slaughtered by the sword. 9I will make you desolate forever. Your cities will never be rebuilt. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 10“For you said, ‘The lands of Israel and Judah will be ours. We will take possession of them. What do we care that the Lord is there!’

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-10The ancient hatred of Edom for Israel began with their ancestors, Esau and Jacob (see Genesis 25:19–34; 27:1–46; Numbers 20:14–21; 24:18; 2 Samuel 8:13–14; 1 Kings 11:14). Because of this hatred, the Edomites took advantage of Babylon’s destruction of Jerusalem. They attacked the Israelites when they were weak and helpless. They tried to destroy the descendants of Jacob and take the lands of Israel and Judah. The Edomites enjoyed killing the Israelites…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-15Another feature of Israel's prosperity; those who exulted over Israel's humiliation, shall themselves be a "prey." Already stated in Eze 25:12-14; properly repeated here in full detail, as a commentary on Eze 34:28. The Israelites "shall be no more a prey"; but Edom, the type of their most bitter foes, shall be destroyed irrecoverably. 2. Mount Seir--that is, Idumea (Ge 36:9).
