Context of Ezekiel 31:6
4Deep springs watered it and helped it to grow tall and luxuriant. The water flowed around it like a river, streaming to all the trees nearby. 5This great tree towered high, higher than all the other trees around it. It prospered and grew long thick branches because of all the water at its roots. The birds nested in its branches, and in its shade all the wild animals gave birth. All the great nations of the world lived in its shadow. 7It was strong and beautiful, with wide-spreading branches, for its roots went deep into abundant water. 8No other cedar in the garden of God could rival it. No cypress had branches to equal it; no plane tree had boughs to compare. No tree in the garden of God came close to it in beauty.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3-9Verses 3-9 Fifth prophecy against Egypt: a warning to Pharaoh from the fate of the Assyrians. The Assyrian empire, after having been supreme in Asia for four centuries, had been overthrown by the united forces of the Babylonians and Medes, in the year of the battle of Carchemish (605 b.c.), which had broken the power of Egypt. This gives force to the warning to Egypt from Assyria‘s fall. Ezekiel 31:4 His plants - Rather, her plantation. The water…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6Like a great tree, Assyria provided shelter for all of the birds and wild animals of the earth. This tree was more magnificent than all the trees in the garden of God, the garden of Eden. It had a God-given beauty and stature similar to the prince of Tyre in Ezekiel 28. Assyria's power was so great that all the great nations of the world lived under its influence.Read the comment
