Context of Exodus 10:25
23During all that time the people could not see each other, and no one moved. But there was light as usual where the people of Israel lived. 24Finally, Pharaoh called for Moses. “Go and worship the Lord,” he said. “But leave your flocks and herds here. You may even take your little ones with you.” “No,” Moses said, “you must provide us with animals for sacrifices and burnt offerings to the Lord our God. 26All our livestock must go with us, too; not a hoof can be left behind. We must choose our sacrifices for the Lord our God from among these animals. And we won’t know how we are to worship the Lord until we get there.” 27But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart once more, and he would not let them go.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 21-29Verses 21-29 The plague of darkness brought upon Egypt was a dreadful plague. It was darkness which might be felt, so thick were the fogs. It astonished and terrified. It continued three days; six nights in one; so long the most lightsome palaces were dungeons. Now Pharaoh had time to consider, if he would have improved it. Spiritual darkness is spiritual bondage; while Satan blinds men's eyes that they see not, he binds their hands and feet, that they…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 25-26Moses would not compromise. He knew the Israelites would not leave any possessions behind. Instead, the Egyptians would give them gifts so they would leave quickly (3:21–22). Moses also emphasized worshiping God. This repeated focus on leaving Egypt for worship shows the main reason for their exodus was so they could become God's people (see study note on 8:26–27).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 24-2624-26. Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the Lord--Terrified by the preternatural darkness, the stubborn king relents, and proposes another compromise--the flocks and herds to be left as hostages for their return. But the crisis is approaching, and Moses insists on every iota of his demand. The cattle would be needed for sacrifice--how many or how few could not be known till their arrival at the scene of religious observance. But the…Read the comment
