Context of Deuteronomy 32:33
31But the rock of our enemies is not like our Rock, as even they recognize. 32Their vine grows from the vine of Sodom, from the vineyards of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poison, and their clusters are bitter. Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras. 34“The Lord says, ‘Am I not storing up these things, sealing them away in my treasury? 35I will take revenge; I will pay them back. In due time their feet will slip. Their day of disaster will arrive, and their destiny will overtake them.’

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-38Verses 26-38 The idolatry and rebellions of Israel deserved, and the justice of God seemed to demand, that they should be rooted out. They are preserved for wise and holy purposes and the prophecies give us some idea what those purposes are. The Lord will never disgrace the throne of his glory. It is great wisdom, and will help much…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-47In ancient times, vows from both parties secured a treaty between individuals or nations. They invoked upon themselves the covenant's judgments and reminded themselves of its promises.Read the comment
