Context of Exodus 29:27
25Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar along with the burnt offering for a pleasing aroma to the Lord, a food offering presented to the Lord. 26After you take the breast of the ram for Aaron’s ordination, wave it before the Lord as a wave offering, and it will be your share. “Consecrate those parts of the ordination ram that belong to Aaron and his sons: the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. 28This is always to be the perpetual share from the Israelites for Aaron and his sons. It is the contribution the Israelites are to make to the Lord from their fellowship offerings. 29“Aaron’s sacred garments will belong to his descendants so that they can be anointed and ordained in them.

Commentaries on Exodus 29:27
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 27The breast of the wave-offering, and the shoulder of the heave-offering - As the wave-offering was agitated to and fro, and the heave-offering up and down, some have conceived that this twofold action represented the figure of the cross, on which the great Peace-offering between God and man was offered in the personal sacrifice of our blessed Redeemer. Had we authority for this conjecture, it would certainly cast much light on the meaning and intention of…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 19-28This ordination offering is very similar to the peace offering, which is also called the fellowship offering (Leviticus 3). In this offering, the fat was burned as a gift to the Lord. The breast and the thigh were first lifted up before the Lord as a sign that they belonged to him (29:24–26). After that, they became the portion for the priests to eat (29:26–28). In a regular peace offering, the person who brought the sacrifice also ate part of the meat…Read the comment

In short, they were taught to know that the service was for them as well as for the people; and every time they engaged in a new…Read the comment
