Context of Exodus 29:27
25Take them from their hands and burn them on the altar on top of the burnt offering, as a pleasing aroma before the Lord; it is a food offering to the Lord. 26“Take the breast from the ram of Aaron’s ordination and present it as a presentation offering before the Lord; it is to be your portion. Consecrate for Aaron and his sons the breast of the presentation offering that is presented and the thigh of the contribution that is lifted up from the ram of ordination. 28This will belong to Aaron and his sons as a regular portion from the Israelites, for it is a contribution. It will be the Israelites’ contribution from their fellowship sacrifices, their contribution to the Lord. 29“The holy garments that belong to Aaron are to belong to his sons after him, so that they can be anointed and ordained in them.

Commentaries on Exodus 29:27
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 27The breast of the wave-offering, and the shoulder of the heave-offering - As the wave-offering was agitated to and fro, and the heave-offering up and down, some have conceived that this twofold action represented the figure of the cross, on which the great Peace-offering between God and man was offered in the personal sacrifice of our blessed Redeemer. Had we authority for this conjecture, it would certainly cast much light on the meaning and intention of…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 19-28This ordination offering is very similar to the peace offering, which is also called the fellowship offering (Leviticus 3). In this offering, the fat was burned as a gift to the Lord. The breast and the thigh were first lifted up before the Lord as a sign that they belonged to him (29:24–26). After that, they became the portion for the priests to eat (29:26–28). In a regular peace offering, the person who brought the sacrifice also ate part of the meat…Read the comment

In short, they were taught to know that the service was for them as well as for the people; and every time they engaged in a new…Read the comment
