Psalms 18:1-2
112345He said: “I love you, Lord, my source of strength!
2The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer. My God is my rocky summit where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
Notes
- 1. Psalms 18:1 Psalm 18. In this long song of thanks, the psalmist (a Davidic king, traditionally understood as David himself) affirms that God is his faithful protector. He recalls in highly poetic fashion how God intervened in awesome power and delivered him from death. The psalmist’s experience demonstrates that God vindicates those who are blameless and remain loyal to him. True to his promises, God gives the king victory on the battlefield and enables him to subdue nations. A parallel version of the psalm appears in 2 Sam 22:1-51. ↩
- 2. Psalms 18:1 Heb “spoke.” ↩
- 3. Psalms 18:1 Heb “in the day,” or “at the time.” ↩
- 4. Psalms 18:1 Heb “hand.” ↩
- 5. Psalms 18:1 Heb “and from the hand of Saul.” ↩
