Context of Job 9:11
9he makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the constellations of the southern sky; 10he does great and unsearchable things, and wonderful things without number. If he passes by me, I cannot see him, if he goes by, I cannot perceive him. 12If he snatches away, who can turn him back? Who dares to say to him, ‘What are you doing?’ 13God does not restrain his anger; under him the helpers of Rahab lie crushed.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11Lo, he goeth by me - That is, he passes along - as in the silent movements of the heavenly bodies. “I see the evidence of his existence. I can see that God must be there - moving along by me in the orbs of night and in the march of the constellations, but I cannot see God himself. He passes by, or rather he passes over me (עלי ‛ālay ), as in the majestic movement of the heavenly bodies over my head.” This is, I think, the idea, and the image is…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-35Job answered Bildad by describing God's universal and legal power. His speech resembles a complex legal case. It includes: A summons and response (9:3, 14–16, 19b, 32). The risk of proving himself guilty (9:20). A "mediator" (9:33–34). A question of accusation (9:12). A legal sentence (9:22). A declaration of guilt (9:28–30).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1111. I see him not: he passeth on--The image is that of a howling wind (Is 21:1). Like it when it bursts invisibly upon man, so God is felt in the awful effects of His wrath, but is not seen (Joh 3:8). Therefore, reasons Job, it is impossible to contend with Him.Read the comment
