Context of 2 Samuel 13:36
34In the meantime Absalom fled. When the servant who was the watchman looked up, he saw many people coming from the west on a road beside the hill. 35Jonadab said to the king, “Look! The king’s sons have come! It’s just as I said!” Just as he finished speaking, the king’s sons arrived, wailing and weeping. The king and all his servants wept loudly as well. 37But Absalom fled and went to King Talmai son of Ammihud of Geshur. And David grieved over his son every day. 38After Absalom fled and went to Geshur, he remained there for three years.

Commentaries on 2 Samuel 13:36
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-39Verses 30-39 Jonadab was as guilty of Ammon's death, as of his sin; such false friends do they prove, who counsel us to do wickedly. Instead of loathing Absalom as a murderer, David, after a time, longed to go forth to him. This was David's infirmity: God saw something in his heart that made a difference, else we should have thought that he, as much as Eli, honoured his sons more than God.Read the comment
