Context of Joshua 2:15
13that you’ll protect my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and their households, and that you’ll save us from death.” 14The men promised her, “We pledge our lives for your lives. If you don’t tell anyone what we’re doing here, we’ll treat you kindly and honestly when the Lord gives us this land.” So she let them down by a rope from her window since her house was built into the city wall. (She lived in the city wall.) 16She told them, “Go to the mountains so that the men who are pursuing you will not find you. Hide there for three days until they return to Jericho. Then you can go on your way.” 17The men told her, “We will be free from the oath which you made us swear, ⌞if you tell anyone what we’re doing here⌟.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15Then she let them down by a cord etc. - The natural place of this verse is after the first clause of Joshua 2:21; for it is certain that she did not let them down in the basket till all those circumstances marked from Joshua 2:16-20; inclusive had taken place. The conduct of Rahab proved that she had the real principle of Divine faith. Observe the promises the spies made to her. The goodness of God is often expressed by his kindness and truth, Psa 117:2; in…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1515. her house was upon the town wall--In many Oriental cities houses are built on the walls with overhanging windows; in others the town wall forms the back wall of the house, so that the window opens into the country. Rahab's was probably of this latter description, and the cord or rope sufficiently strong to bear the weight of a man.Read the comment
