Context of Isaiah 16:10
8The fields of Heshbon and the vineyards of Sibmah wither. Rulers of the nations have cut off their grapes. The grapevines ⌞once⌟ reached as far as Jazer and strayed out into the desert. Their shoots had spread out over the sea. 9I will cry for the grapevines of Sibmah as Jazer cries for them. I will drench you with my tears, Heshbon and Elealeh. The shouts of joy for your ripened fruits and your harvest will be silenced. Joy and delight have vanished from the orchards. No songs are sung. No shouts are raised. No one stomps on grapes in the winepresses, because I have put an end to the shouts of joy. 11That is why my heart mourns for Moab like a harp. My soul mourns for Kir Hareseth. 12When the people of Moab appear at the worship site, they will only wear themselves out. They will come into the holy place to pray, but they won’t be able to.

Commentaries on Isaiah 16:10
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10Neither shall there be shouting "An end is put to the shouting" - The Septuagint read השבת hishbeth, passive, and in the third person; rightly, for God is not the speaker in this place. The rendering of the Septuagint is , "the cry ceaseth;" which last word, necessary to the rendering of the Hebrew and to the sense, is supplied by MSS. Pachom. and 1. D. II., having been lost out of the other copies.Read the comment

Out of the plentiful field - Hebrew, From Carmel;‘ but Carmel means a fruitful field as well as the mountain of that name (see the note at Isaiah 10:18). I have made their vintage shouting to cease - That is, by the desolation that has come upon the land. The vineyards are destroyed; and of course the shout of joy in the vintage is no more…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-14Verses 6-14 Those who will not be counselled, cannot be helped. More souls are ruined by pride than by any other sin whatever. Moab was famous for fields and vineyards; but they shall be laid waste by the invading army. God can soon turn laughter into mourning, and joy into heaviness…Read the comment
