Context of Genesis 26:32
30Isaac prepared a special dinner for them, and they ate and drank. 31Early the next morning they exchanged oaths. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they left peacefully. That same day Isaac’s servants came and told him about a well they had dug. They said to him, “We’ve found water.” 33So he named it Shibah [Oath]. That is why the name of the city is still Beersheba today. 34When Esau was 40 years old, he married Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite. He also married Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-33Verses 26-33 When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him, Pr 16:7. Kings' hearts are in his hands, and when he pleases, he can turn them to favour his people. It is not wrong to stand upon our guard in dealing with those who have acted unfairly. But Isaac did not insist on the unkindnesses they had done him; he freely entered into friendship with them. Religion teaches us to be neighbourly, and, as much as in us…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 26-33This oath is like the one a previous king made with Abraham (see 21:22–31). This king acknowledged that God was blessing Isaac. He understood that an oath with Isaac would be beneficial. No opposition can stop God's blessing. It will flourish, and other nations will notice it. They will seek peace with God's people to share in the blessing.Read the comment
