Context of Ezekiel 16:33
31You build your platforms at the head of every street and place your illegal worship sites in every square. Yet, you aren’t like other prostitutes, because you don’t want to be paid. 32You are an adulterous wife who prefers strangers to her husband. All prostitutes get paid. But you give gifts to all your lovers and bribe them to come to you from all directions to have sex with you. 34You are a different kind of prostitute. No one goes after you for favors. You are the opposite. You pay them, and you don’t accept payment. 35“ ‘Listen to the Lord’s word, you prostitute.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 33The picture is heightened by the contrast between one who as a prostitute receives hire for her shame, and one who as a wife is so utterly abandoned as to bestow her husband‘s goods to purchase her own dishonor. Compare 2 Kings 16:8.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-63In Ezekiel 16, Jerusalem is described as an unfaithful wife and a prostitute. This language is very strong. Even in English, the chapter can be difficult to read. In its ancient setting, it would have sounded even more shocking. Ezekiel used graphic language to show how serious Judah’s sin was. He did not try to make his message softer or more polite. He spoke in a direct and forceful way. This strong language is the main point of the chapter. Ezekiel…Read the comment
