Context of Deuteronomy 11:9
7You saw with your own eyes all these spectacular things that the Lord did. 8Obey all the commands I’m giving you today. Then you will have the strength to enter and take possession of the land once you’ve crossed ⌞the Jordan River⌟. Then you will also live for a long time in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors and their descendants—a land flowing with milk and honey. 10The land you’re about to enter and take possession of isn’t like the land you left in Egypt. There you used to plant your seed, and you had to water it like a vegetable garden. 11The land you’re about to enter is a land with hills and valleys, watered by rain from the sky.

Commentaries on Deuteronomy 11:9
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-17Verses 8-17 Moses sets before them, for the future, life and death, the blessing and the curse, according as they did or did not keep God's commandment. Sin tends to shorten the days of all men, and to shorten the days of a people's prosperity. God will bless them with an abundance of all good things, if they would love him and serve him. Godliness has the promise of the life that now is; but the favour of God shall put gladness into the heart, more than…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-32Here, Moses adds to the covenant stipulations (the commands in chapters 5–11) a list of blessings and curses. These blessings and curses are similar to the longer list that appears at the end of the covenant text in 27–28. They show the results of obeying or disobeying the covenant.Read the comment

He knew that he might dwell upon these, for he was addressing many who had been witnesses of those appalling…Read the comment
