Context of 2 Kings 13:11
9Jehoahaz lay down in death with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. His son Jehoash ruled as king in his place. 10In Joash’s thirty-seventh year as king of Judah, Jehoahaz’s son Jehoash began to rule Israel in Samaria. He ruled for 16 years. He did what the Lord considered evil and never gave up committing the sins that Jeroboam led Israel to commit. He continued to commit them. 12Isn’t everything else about Jehoash—everything he did, his heroic acts when he fought against King Amaziah of Judah—written in the official records of the kings of Israel? 13Jehoash lay down in death with his ancestors and was buried with the kings of Israel in Samaria. Then Jeroboam claimed the throne.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-19Verses 10-19 Jehoash, the king, came to Elisha, to receive his dying counsel and blessing. It may turn much to our spiritual advantage, to attend the sick-beds and death-beds of good men, that we may be encouraged in religion by the living comforts they have from it in a dying hour. Elisha assured the king of his success; yet he must look up to God for direction and strength; must reckon his own hands not enough, but go on, in dependence upon Divine aid…Read the comment

This setup lets him highlight final details about Elisha (2 Kings 13:14–21) and Israel's ongoing issue with Aram (2 Kings 13:22–25) before returning to Jehoash's war with King Amaziah of Judah in 2 Kings 14:8–14. in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel: See study note on 1 Kings 14:19–20.Read the comment
