Context of Psalms 59:6

4for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see! 5You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. 7There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips— for "Who," they think, "will hear us?" 8But you, O Lord, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision.

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6They return at evening - When the beasts of prey leave their dens, and go prowling about the cities and villages to get offal, and entrap domestic animals, these come about the city to see if they may get an entrance, destroy the work, and those engaged in it.Read the comment
• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6They return at evening - Many have rendered this in the imperative, as in Psalm 59:14, “Let them return at evening,” etc. So Luther renders it, and so also DeWette.
