Context of Ezekiel 35:14
12And you shall know that I am the Lord. "I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, 'They are laid desolate; they are given us to devour.' 13And you magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. Thus says the Lord God: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-15Verses 10-15 When we see the vanity of the world in the disappointments, losses, and crosses, which others meet with, instead of showing ourselves greedy of worldly things, we should sit more loose to them. In the multitude of words, not one is unknown to God; not the most idle word; and the most daring is not above his rebuke. In the destruction of the enemies of the church, God designs his own glory; and we may be sure that he will not come short of his…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-15The Edomites wrongly thought that God's judgment on his people and his leaving the temple meant his covenant with Israel had ended. The Edomites boasted and elevated themselves above both Israel and the Lord. The God of Israel would not allow such boasting, for he is the ruler of all. His choice of Israel and his gift of the land to them would not be taken back.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1414. (Is 65:13, 14). "The whole earth" refers to Judea and the nations that submit themselves to Judea's God; when these rejoice, the foes of God and His people, represented by Edom as a nation, shall be desolate. Things shall be completely reversed; Israel, that now for a time mourns, shall then rejoice and for ever. Edom, that now rejoices over fallen Israel, shall then, when elsewhere all is joy, mourn, and for ever (Is 65:17-19; Mt 5:4; Lu 6:25)…Read the comment
