Context of Song of Songs 6:11
9But there is only one woman that I want. Nobody is like her in any way. She is my perfect one, as lovely as a dove. She is the special daughter of her mother. Her mother loves her best among all her children. The young women saw her and they praised her. The queens and the slave wives also praised her. 10They said, ‘She is like the light that appears at dawn. She is as beautiful as the moon. She is as bright as the sun. She is as wonderful as the stars that shine brightly in their places.’ I went down to the garden of walnut trees. I wanted to see the new plants that were growing in the valley; to see if the vines had new leaves now; to see if the pomegranate trees had flowers. 12I became so happy that I did not understand what was happening. I knew that I wanted to be with her. I felt that I was riding with the king's men in their chariots. 13Come back, come back, young woman from Shulam! Yes, come back, so that we can look at you again. Why do you want to look at the young woman from Shulam? Do not look at her as if she is dancing the dance of Mahanaim.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11I went down into the garden of nuts - I believe this and the following verse refer at least to the preparations for a farther consummation of the marriage, or examination of the advancement of the bride's pregnancy. But many circumstances of this kind are so interwoven, and often anticipated and also postponed, that it is exceedingly difficult to arrange the whole so as to ascertain the several parts, and who are the actors and speakers. But other writers…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-13Verses 11-13 In retirement and in meditation the Christian character is formed and perfected. But not in the retirement of the idle, the self-indulgent, or the trifler. When the Christian is released from the discharge of his duties in life, the world has no attractions for him. His prayer is, that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow within him, and around him. Such are the interesting cares and employments of him whom the world wrongly…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11I went down: It is unclear who is speaking. The New Living Translation shows it as the young woman's speech, but it could also be the young man's. The trip to the walnut grove poetically expresses a desire for a romantic meeting.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1111. The bride's words; for she everywhere is the narrator, and often soliloquizes, which He never does. The first garden (So 2:11-13) was that of spring, full of flowers and grapes not yet ripe; the second, autumn, with spices (which are always connected with the person of Jesus Christ), and nothing unripe (So 4:13, &c.). The third here, of "nuts," from the previous autumn; the end of winter, and verge of spring; the Church in the upper room (Ac 1:13…Read the comment
