Context of Psalms 63:8
6When I lie on my bed, I think about you all through the night. 7You are the one who keeps me safe, like a bird protects its babies under its wings. So I sing happy songs. I keep very near to you and your strong right hand keeps me safe. 9My enemies are trying to kill me, but I know that they themselves will die. They will go down into the deep hole of death. 10Soldiers will kill them with swords. Wild dogs will eat their dead bodies.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8My soul followeth hard after thee - אחריך נפשי דבקה dabekah naphshi achareycha, "My soul cleaves (or) is glued after thee." This phrase not only shows the diligence of the pursuit, and the nearness of the attainment, but also the fast hold he had got of the mercy of his God.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8My soul followeth hard after thee - The word used here - דבק dâbaq - means properly to cleave to; to adhere; to be glued to; to stick fast. Then it means to attach oneself to anything; and then, to pursue or follow after. The idea here is that of adhering to, or cleaving to; and the meaning is, that the psalmist adhered firmly to God, as pieces of wood glued together adhere to each other; that he, as it were, stuck fast to him; that he would not leave…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-11Verses 7-11 True Christians can, in some measure, and at some times, make use of the strong language of David, but too commonly our souls cleave to the dust. Having committed ourselves to God, we must be easy and pleased, and quiet from the fear of evil. Those that follow hard after God, would soon fail, if God's right hand did not uphold them. It is he that strengthens us and comforts us. The psalmist doubts not but that though now sowing in tears, he…Read the comment
