Context of Psalms 35:9
7They hid a trap to catch me. There was no reason for them to do that. They even dug a deep hole for me to fall into. 8Surprise my enemies and destroy them! Let their own traps catch them! Let them fall to their own death! Then I will be happy because of what the Lord has done. I will be happy because he has made me safe. 10I will shout with all my strength, ‘Lord, who is like you? When strong people try to hurt weak people, you are the one who keeps the weak people safe. You also keep poor people safe when robbers try to take things from them.’ 11Cruel people tell lies against me in court. I do not even know what they are talking about.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 9My soul - My life, thus saved: - Shall be joyful in the Lord - I am so circumstanced at present as to be in the utmost danger of being destroyed by my foes; if I escape, it must be by the strong arm of the Lord; and to him shall the glory be given.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord - That is, I shall be joyful, or will rejoice. What we rejoice in, in such a case, is not their ruin, but our…Read the comment
