Context of Leviticus 7:15
13He must also give other loaves of bread to God. He must make these with flour, oil and yeast. 14A man must offer one of each kind of loaf to the Lord. These belong to the priest who throws the blood on the altar. The person must not keep the meat from the animal until the next day. He must eat it on the day that he offers it. 16The gift to God may be for a promise. The gift may be because the person loves God. That person will not have to eat it all on the same day. He can eat some of it on the next day. 17On the third day, there may still be some meat that he has not eaten. If there is, he must burn it.

Commentaries on Leviticus 7:15
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15He shall not leave any of it until the morning - Because in such a hot country it was apt to putrefy, and as it was considered to be holy, it would have been very improper to expose that to putrefaction which had been consecrated to the Divine Being. Mr. Harmer supposes that the law here refers rather to the custom of drying flesh which had been devoted to religious purposes, which is practiced among the Mohammedans to the present time. This, he thinks…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-27Verses 11-27 As to the peace-offerings, in the expression of their sense of mercy, God left them more at liberty, than in the expression of their sense of sin; that their sacrifices, being free-will offerings, might be the more acceptable, while, by obliging them to bring the sacrifices of atonement, God shows the necessity of the great Propitiation. The main reason why blood was forbidden of old, was because the Lord had appointed blood for an atonement…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 15Worshipers presented the thanksgiving offering as an expression of gratitude (Jeremiah 17:26; 33:11). They had to eat the sacrifice on the same day they offered it. This rule helped the worshiper remember the reason for giving thanks.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 15-1715-17. the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings ... shall be eaten the same day that it is offered--The flesh of the sacrifices was eaten on the day of the offering or on the day following. But if any part of it remained till the third day, it was, instead of being made use of, to be burned with fire. In the East, butcher-meat is generally eaten the day it is killed, and it is rarely kept a second day, so that as a prohibition was issued against…Read the comment
