Context of Leviticus 13:18
16The hole might close up and the skin might go white. If it does, the person must go to the priest. 17The priest must look at the skin. It may be white. The priest must say that the disease has left the person. Then he will be clean. A person might have a boil on his skin. Then it might get better. 19If there is still a red or white mark on the skin, the person must go to the priest. 20The priest must look at the person's skin. The red mark might be under the skin and the hair on the skin might be white. Then the priest must say that the person has a disease. The person is not clean.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 18In the skin thereof, was a boil - Scheuchzer supposes this and the following verse to speak of phlegmonic, erysipelatous, gangrenous, and phagedenic ulcers, all of which were subjected to the examination of the priest, to see whether they were infectious, or whether the leprosy might not take its origin from them. A person with any sore or disposition to contagion was more likely to catch the infection by contact with the diseased person, than he was…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 18-44Verses 18-44 The priest is told what judgment to make, if there were any appearance of a leprosy in old sores; and such is the danger of those who having escaped the pollutions of the world are again entangled therein.
