Context of Joshua 10:33
31After this, Joshua and all the Israelite army marched from Libnah to Lachish. They attacked Lachish city from all sides. 32The Lord gave them power over the city. They fought for two days and then they took the city. They killed everyone who lived in it, as they had done at Libnah. Then Horam, king of Gezer, came to help the people of Lachish. But Joshua's army fought against him and his army. He killed them all, with nobody left alive. 34Then Joshua and his army marched from Lachish to Eglon. They attacked Eglon city from all sides. 35They took it on the same day. They killed everyone who lived in that city, as they had done at Lachish.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 33Horam king of Gezer - It is likely that Horam was in a state of alliance with the king of Lachish, and therefore came to his assistance as soon as it appeared that he was likely to be attacked. Joshua probably sent a detachment against him, before he was able to form a junction with the forces of Lachish; and utterly destroyed him and his army. Gezer is supposed to have been situated near Azotus. See 1 Maccabees 16:34. It fell to the tribe of Ephraim…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 33Gezer lies on the southern border of the tribe of Ephraim Joshua 16:3. It was considerably to the northward of Joshua‘s present line of operations, and does not appear to have been captured at this time. He contented himself for the present with repulsing the attack made upon him, killed Horam (compare Joshua 12:12), inflicting a severe defeat upon his people, and then continued to pursue his conquests over the confederated kings and their allies in south…Read the comment

Here also was typified the destruction of all the enemies of the Lord Jesus, who…Read the comment
