Context of Job 38:22
20Can you take them to the places where they belong? Do you know the roads that go there? 21Surely you must know all this, because you have lived for so long! It seems that you were already born when I created these things! Have you visited the place where I keep all the snow? Or the place where I keep the hail? 23I keep the snow and the hail ready to use. I use them in times of trouble and wars. 24You do not know where lightning comes from. Or where the east wind starts when it blows across the earth.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 22The treasures of the snow - The places where snow is formed, and the cause of that formation. See on Job 37:6; (note). Treasures of the hail - It is more easy to account for the formation of snow than of hail. Hail, however, is generally supposed to be drops of rain frozen in their passage through cold regions of the air; and the hail is always in proportion to the size of the raindrop from which it was formed. But this meteor does not appear to be formed…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22Hast thou entered into the treasures of snow? - Snow is here represented as something which is laid up like treasure, and kept in reserve for use when God shall require it. Silver and gold were thus laid up for occasions when they would be wanted, and the figurative sentiment here is, that snow and hail were thus preserved for the use to which the Almighty might devote them, or for those great occasions when it would be proper to bring them forth to…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-24Verses 12-24 The Lord questions Job, to convince him of his ignorance, and shame him for his folly in prescribing to God. If we thus try ourselves, we shall soon be brought to own that what we know is nothing in comparison with what we know not. By the tender mercy of our God, the Day-spring from on high has visited us, to give light to those that sit in darkness, whose hearts are turned to it as clay to the seal, 2Co 4:6. God's way in the government of…Read the comment
