Context of Job 3:6
4That day should be completely dark, with no light to shine on it! God in heaven above should not even think about it. 5That day should remain in a dark shadow. Clouds should cover it so that everywhere is black. Remove that night completely! It should no longer be a date among the days of the year. Remove that day from the months of the year. 7Do not let women become pregnant on that night. Nobody should be happy! 8People who know how to curse days should curse that day. They should wake up Leviathan, the monster from the sea, to attack it.

Commentaries on Job 3:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6As for that night, let darkness seize upon it - I think the Targum has hit the sense of this whole verse: "Let darkness seize upon that night; let it not be reckoned among the annual festivals; in the number of the months of the calendar let it not be computed." Some understand the word אפל ophel as signifying a dark storm; hence the Vulgate, tenebrosus turbo, "a dark whirlwind." And hence Coverdale, Let the darck storme overcome that night, let it not be…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6As for “that night.” Job, having cursed the day, proceeds to utter a malediction on the “night” also; see Job 3:3. This malediction extends to Job 3:9. Let darkness seize upon it - Hebrew, Let it take it. Let deep and horrid darkness seize it as its own. Let no star arise upon it; let it be unbroken and uninterrupted gloom. The word “darkness,” however, does not quite express the force of the original. The word used here אפל 'ôphel is poetic, and denotes…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-10Job spoke and risked words of sin (1:21; 2:10). Job cursed the day of his birth in great detail. However, his words sounded more like sad complaints. Job did not curse God as his creator, but he showed grief about the condition of his life.Read the comment
