Context of Job 28:6
4They dig deep holes in the ground far away from places where people live. Other people do not know about those places. People hang on ropes as they go deep down into the earth. 5We grow our food on the earth above. But deep under the ground, people use fire to break the rocks. Sapphires come from the rocks in those places. The dust there contains gold. 7Even eagles or other birds with good eyes do not see those places. 8Lions and other wild animals do not walk there.

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. Sapphires are found in alluvial soil near rocks and embedded in gneiss. The ancients distinguished two kinds: 1. The real, of transparent blue: 2. That improperly so called, opaque, with gold spots; that is, lapis lazuli. To the latter, looking like gold dust, Umbreit refers "dust of gold." English Version better, "The stones of the earth are, &c., and the clods of it (Vulgate) are gold"; the parallel clauses are thus neater.Read the comment
