Context of Isaiah 34:16
14Wild animals and hyenas will meet there. Wild goats will call out to each other. The night monster will come there, and she will find a place to stay. 15Owls will build their nests there. They will take care of their eggs until the baby birds come out. They will keep their babies safe under their wings. Hawks will meet there too. They will be together in pairs, male and female. Read the Lord's book very carefully: ‘All these animals and birds will be there. They will all be together in pairs. The Lord himself has commanded what must happen. His Spirit brings them all together.’ 17The Lord has decided where each one will live. He measures a place for every kind of animal and bird. The land will always belong to them to live in. It will be their home from one century to the next.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16My mouth "For the mouth of Jehovah" - For הוא hu, five MSS., (three ancient), read יהוה Jehovah, and another is so corrected; so likewise the Septuagint. Two editions have צום tsivam ; and so the Septuagint, Vulgate, and Arabic, with the edition of 1486, and a MS. has קבצם kebatsam, with the masculine pronoun instead of the feminine: and so in the next verses it is להם lahem, instead of להן lahen, in fourteen MSS., six of them ancient. - L. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 16Seek ye out - Lock carefully at the prediction, and its fulfillment. This seems to be addressed to the inhabitants of that land, or to any who might doubt, or be disposed to examine. They were invited to compare the prediction with the fulfillment, and see how literally all would be fulfilled - an examination which may be made now, and the prediction will be seen to have been accomplished with most surprising particularity and accuracy. The book of the…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-17Verses 9-17 Those who aim to ruin the church, can never do that, but will ruin themselves. What dismal changes sin can make! It turns a fruitful land into barrenness, a crowded city into a wilderness. Let us compare all we discover in the book of the Lord, with the dealings of providence around us, that we may be more diligent in seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness. What the mouth of the Lord has commanded, his Spirit will perform. And let us…Read the comment
