Context of Ezekiel 3:24
22The Lord continued to give me strength. He said to me, ‘Stand up now! Go out into the valley and I will speak to you there.’ 23So I got up and I went out to the valley. I saw the glory of the Lord in that place. It was like the glory that I had seen beside the Kebar river. I bent down low, with my face to the ground. Then a spirit came into me. He lifted me up and he made me stand on my feet. The Lord said to me, ‘Go into your house and shut the door. 25Son of man, people will tie you with ropes so that you cannot move. You will not be able to go out among the people. 26I will also stop your tongue from moving so that you cannot speak. You will not be able to warn the Israelites. They are people who refuse to obey me.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 24“Shut” in the privacy of his own chamber he is to receive a message from Yahweh. This “shutting up,” however, and the “bands” (Ezekiel 3:25, used figuratively) were signs of the manner in which Ezekiel‘s countrymen would close their ears, hindering him as far as in them lay from delivering the message of the Lord. With this verse commences a series of symbolic actions enjoined to the prophet in order to foretell the coming judgments of Jerusalem Ezekiel…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-27Verses 22-27 Let us own ourselves for ever indebted to the mediation of Christ, for the blessed intercourse between God and man; and a true believer will say, I am never less alone than when thus alone. When the Lord opened Ezekiel's mouth, he was to deliver his message boldly, to place life and death, the blessing and the curse, before the people, and leave them to their choice.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 24-25Ezekiel was like a prisoner of God. He was shut inside his house and tied with ropes. It is not clear whether these ropes were real. Some think the other exiles tied him because they were hostile toward him. Others think this is a strong picture that shows their opposition and how his movements were restricted among them. His captivity was complete. God also limited his speech (Ezekiel 3:26–27). This unusual situation was meant to be a sign to the people.Read the comment
