Context of Exodus 35:30
28They also brought spices and olive oil. These things were to burn in the lamps, and to make the special oil and the sweet incense. 29Many Israelites chose to offer gifts to the Lord. Men and women all brought the gifts that they had decided to bring. Moses had told them about the work that the Lord had commanded them to do. So they brought these things to help with the work. Then Moses said to the Israelites, ‘Listen! The Lord has chosen Bezalel, the son of Uri and the grandson of Hur. He belongs to the tribe of Judah. 31The Lord has filled him with his Spirit so that he has special skills. He knows how to make many kinds of things. 32He can draw pictures of beautiful things that he wants to make. He can use gold, silver and bronze to make them.

Commentaries on Exodus 35:30
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30The Lord hath called by name Bezaleel - See this subject discussed at large in the note on Exodus 28:3; (note), where the subject of superseding the work of the hand by the extra use of machinery is particularly considered. From the nature of the offerings made for the service of the tabernacle, we see of what sort the spoils were which the Israelites brought out of Egypt: gold, silver, brass, blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, rams' skins dyed red, what…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-35Verses 30-35 Here is the Divine appointment of the master-workmen, that there might be no strife for the office, and that all who were employed in the work might take direction from, and give account to them. Those whom God called by name to his service, he filled with the Spirit of God. Skill, even in worldly employments, is God's gift, and comes from above. But many are ready enough in cutting out work for other people, and can tell what this man or…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-35Much of the report about building the Tent of Meeting repeats what 25:1–31:18 said. There is a change from the imperative mood to the indicative, and there are certain changes in the order. This repetition emphasizes that the work was done exactly as God commanded (see 40:16). The people had tried to secure God's presence their own way with the gold calf, which led to disaster. Now, by following God's way, they received blessings (40:34–38).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3030. See, the Lord hath called by name Bezaleel, the son of Uri, &c.--Moses had made this communication before [see Ex 31:2-5; also see on Ex 31:2]. But now that the collection had been made, the materials were contributed, and the operations of building about to be commenced, it was with the greatest propriety he reminded the people that the individuals entrusted with the application of their gold and silver had been nominated to the work by authority to…Read the comment
