Context of 2 Samuel 14:24
22Joab bent his body down low with his face towards the ground. He thanked the king. He said, ‘Now I know that you are pleased with me. You have agreed to do what I have asked you to do.’ 23Then Joab went to Geshur. He brought Absalom back to Jerusalem. But the king said, ‘Absalom must go to live in his own house. I do not want him to come to see me.’ So Absalom did not go to see the king. Instead, he went to live in his own house. 25Everyone in Israel praised Absalom. They all thought that he was the most handsome man in the whole country. His body was perfect, from head to toe. 26Once every year he cut his hair because it became too heavy. Each time, the hair that he cut off weighed about 2 kilograms.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24Let him not see my face - He would not at once restore him to favor, though he had now remitted his crime; so that he should not die for it. It was highly proper to show this detestation of the crime, and respect for justice.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 24Let him not see my face - We are not told why David adopted this half-measure. Possibly Bath-sheba‘s influence may have been exerted to keep Absalom in disgrace for the sake of Solomon.Read the comment
