Context of 2 Kings 24:6
4Manasseh had murdered people who had not done anything wrong. Their blood was in the streets of Jerusalem. The Lord would not agree to forgive Manasseh for his sins. 5The other things that happened while Jehoiakim was king are written in a book. The book is called ‘The history of Judah's kings’. It tells about the things that Jehoiakim did. Jehoiakim died and they buried him beside his ancestors. His son Jehoiachin became king after him. 7The king of Egypt did not take his army out of his own country again. That was because the king of Babylon had taken a lot of Egypt's land for himself. He had taken all the land between the Stream of Egypt and the River Euphrates. Before that, the king of Egypt had authority over that land. 8Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he became king. He ruled as king in Jerusalem for three months. His mother's name was Nehushta. She was the daughter of Elnathan, who came from Jerusalem.

Commentaries on 2 Kings 24:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6Jehoiachin his son - As this man reigned only three months and was a mere vassal to the Babylonians, his reign is scarcely to be reckoned; and therefore Jeremiah says of Jehoiakim, He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David, Jeremiah 36:30, for at that time it belonged to the king of Babylon, and Jehoiachin was a mere viceroy or governor. Jehoiachin is called Jechonias in Matthew 1:11.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Jehoiachin - Also called Jeconiah and Coniah. Jehoiachin and Jeconiah both mean “Yahweh will establish,” Coniah, “Yahweh establishes.” Probably his original name was Jehoiachin. When he ascended the throne, and was required to take a new name, anxious not to lose the good men contained in his old one, he simply transposed the two elements. Jeremiah shortened this new name from Jeconiah to Coniah, thus cutting off from it the notion of futurity, to imply…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6Jehoiakim died in 598 BC, likely during Nebuchadnezzar’s second attack on Jerusalem. Josephus says Nebuchadnezzar executed Jehoiakim (see Josephus, Antiquities 10.6.3; compare Jeremiah 22:18–19; 36:30–31).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. Jehoiakim slept with his fathers--This phraseology can mean nothing more than that he died; for he was not buried with his royal ancestors; and whether he fell in battle, or his body was subjected to posthumous insults, he was, according to the prediction (Jr 22:19), not honored with the rites of sepulture (Jr 36:30). Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead--The very brief reign of this prince, which lasted only three months, during which he was a…Read the comment
