Context of 2 Kings 21:23
21He lived in the same bad way as his father did. He bent down low to worship the useless idols that his father had worshipped. 22He turned away from the Lord, the God that his ancestors worshipped. He did not obey the Lord's teaching. Amon's officers decided to kill him. They killed him in his palace. 24Then the people of Judah punished all Amon's murderers with death. They chose his son Josiah to be king after him. 25The other things that Amon did are written in a book. The book is called ‘The history of Judah's kings’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 23The servants of Amon conspired - What their reason was for slaying their king we cannot tell. It does not seem to have been a popular act, for the people of the land rose up and slew the regicides. We hear enough of this man when we hear that he was as bad as his father was in the beginning of his reign, but did not copy his father's repentance.Read the comment

Once more Judah was tried with a reformation. Whether the Lord bears long with presumptuous offenders, or speedily cuts them off in their sins, all must perish who…Read the comment
