Context of 1 Samuel 10:8
6Then the Lord's Spirit will come to you with power. You will start to prophesy too. You will change to become like a different person. 7After you see these things happen, you must do whatever seems right to you. God will be with you. You must go to Gilgal and then I will come there. I will join with you there to offer burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. You must wait for seven days until I come. When I arrive at Gilgal, I will tell you what you should do.’ 9Saul turned away to leave Samuel. At that moment, God gave Saul a new nature. Everything that Samuel had said to Saul happened that day. 10When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, a group of prophets met them. God's Spirit came on Saul with power. He started to prophesy as the prophets were doing.

Commentaries on 1 Samuel 10:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Seven days shalt thou tarry - I will come to thee within seven days, offer sacrifices, receive directions from the Lord, and deliver them to thee. It is likely that these seven days referred to the time in which Samuel came to Saul to Gilgal, offered sacrifices, and confirmed the kingdom to him, after he had defeated the Ammonites. See 1 Samuel 11:14, 1 Samuel 11:15.Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal--This, according to Josephus, was to be a standing rule for the observance of Saul while the prophet and he lived; that in every great crisis, such as a hostile incursion on the country, he should repair to Gilgal, where he was to remain seven days, to afford time for the tribes on both sides Jordan to assemble, and Samuel to reach it.Read the comment
