- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 52Blessed be the Lord for evermore - Let him treat us as he will, his name deserves eternal praises: our affliction, though great, is less than we have deserved. This verse concludes the Third Book of the Psalter; and, I think, has been added by a later hand, in order to make this distinction, as every Masoretic Bible has something of this kind at the end of each book. The verse is wanting in one of Kennicott's and one of De Rossi's MSS.; in another it is…Read the comment

It is an instance of the faith which those who are truly pious have in God, in all circumstances, and at all times; of their belief that he is worthy…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 38-52Verses 38-52 Sometimes it is not easy to reconcile God's providences with his promises, yet we are sure that God's works fulfil his word. When the great Anointed One, Christ himself, was upon the cross, God seemed to have cast him off, yet did not make void his covenant, for that was established for ever. The honour of the house of David was lost. Thrones and crowns are often laid in the dust; but there is a crown of glory reserved for Christ's spiritual…Read the comment

Its words of praise stand in strong contrast to the pain and questions expressed in Psalm 89. Compare Psalm 41:13; 106:48.Read the comment
