(I answer [him], and I will observe him.) I am like a green fir-tree. — From me is thy fruit found. Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? intelligent, and he shall know them? Those which relate to the backslidings, iniquity, and punishment of Israel; and to the mercy and kindness of God in their promised restoration. The things which belong to the work of sin in the heart; the things which belong to the work of grace in the soul; and particularly the things mentioned in this wonderful chapter. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9Who is wise and he shall understand these things? - The prophet says this, not of the words in which he had spoken, but of the substance.
